Cancellation policy

What happens if you cancel, what happens if we do, and what the e-bike deposit is for. The tables are the policy — the paragraphs underneath only explain them.

Placeholder copy — not legal advice

This document was written to show what the page looks like when it is full of real text. The clauses are plausible for a Portuguese transport and rental company, and the figures match the rest of this site, but nobody qualified has read them. A lawyer must review and rewrite this before launch.

The three numbers most people came for

Airport transfers: free up to 24 hours before pickup (48 for Lisbon and Seville). Private excursions: free up to 72 hours. E-bikes: free up to 48 hours, and always free if the weather turns.

This policy forms part of our terms of service and applies to every booking made through this site, through a partner hotel, or over WhatsApp. Where a booking was made through a hotel and billed to a room, the same windows apply and the hotel takes the amount off the room account.

1Airport transfers

1.1
Transfer

Faro Airport and any transfer inside the Algarve

More than 24 hours before pickup

100% refund

Cancel from the link in your confirmation or by WhatsApp. Nothing is charged.

6 to 24 hours before

50% refund

The driver is already scheduled and the slot can rarely be resold at that notice.

Less than 6 hours before

No refund

The vehicle is committed to you and the driver is on the way to the area.

No-show at the pickup

No refund

See clause 5 — a no-show is not the same as a late flight, and we look for you before we call it one.

Times are counted from the scheduled pickup time shown on your confirmation. If we are meeting a flight, the pickup time is the one we set from the flight, not the one you first booked.

1.2
Transfer

Lisbon and Seville airports

More than 48 hours before pickup

100% refund

The day can still be sold to somebody else.

24 to 48 hours before

50% refund

The driver has the day blocked and will not now fill it.

Less than 24 hours before

No refund

The day is lost. If your flight itself is cancelled, clause 4 applies instead and you are refunded in full.

A Lisbon or Seville run is two and a half to three and a half hours each way. It occupies a driver and a vehicle for the whole day, which is why the free window opens earlier than on a Faro run.

1.3

Changing instead of cancelling

Changing the time, the date, the address or the number of passengers is free at any point up to 6 hours before pickup, including inside the paid-cancellation windows above. If the change means a larger vehicle, you pay the difference between the two published prices and nothing else. If it means a smaller one, we refund the difference. Changing is almost always better for you than cancelling and rebooking — the price you originally locked in travels with the booking.

2Private excursions

2.1
Excursion

Half-day and full-day private excursions

More than 72 hours before the pickup time

100% refund

Cancel or move it to another date. Moving costs nothing at any point in this window.

24 to 72 hours before

50% refund

Move it free of charge to any date in the next 12 months, or take the partial refund.

Less than 24 hours before

No refund

The driver and the vehicle are committed and the day cannot be resold.

We cancel — sea, weather or a vehicle fault

100% refund

You choose: another date, a different excursion of the same value, or your money back.

An excursion books a vehicle and a driver for a whole half or full day, and those days are sold in advance in season. Third-party tickets we bought on your behalf — boat fares at Benagil, fortress entry at Sagres, monument tickets in Seville or Lisbon — are refunded only if the operator refunds them to us.

2.2

When the sea decides

The Benagil cave is reached by a small boat operated by a third party. If the sea is too rough for that boat to run, we tell you the evening before and you choose between moving the day, running the excursion without the cave at a reduced price, or a full refund. We do not run the boat and we do not overrule the skipper.

3E-bike rentals

3.1
E-bike

Daily, weekly and monthly e-bike rentals

More than 48 hours before delivery

100% refund

Cancel or move it. Nothing is charged and no reason is needed.

24 to 48 hours before

Less one day's rental

The bikes are prepared, charged and set aside for you.

Less than 24 hours before

Less one day's rental

The bikes are loaded for delivery. The first rental day is charged, the rest is refunded.

The forecast turns

100% refund

We message you the evening before if rain or wind is coming. Move the day, shorten it or cancel it — whatever you choose, it is free.

Windows are counted from the agreed delivery or collection time. Monthly rentals can be ended early with 7 days' notice; we refund the unused whole weeks at the weekly rate.

3.2

Ending a rental early

If you hand the bikes back before the end of a booked period we refund the whole unused days at the rate you actually paid, minus one day. We do not reprice the rental upwards because you used it for fewer days than the weekly rate assumed — a four-day rental that started as a week stays priced as a week, and you get three days back.

4The e-bike deposit and damage

4.1

A hold, not a payment

At handover we place a €250 pre-authorisation on a payment card per bike, to a maximum of €500 for any one rental however many bikes it covers. A pre-authorisation is a hold: the money never leaves your account and no payment is taken. It is released the moment the bikes come back in the condition they left in, and clears with your bank within 5 working days. We cannot make your bank clear it faster and neither can you.

We do not accept cash deposits, and we do not photocopy passports or hold identity documents.

4.2

What comes out of the deposit

Damage schedule

Scuffed frame or scratched paint

Cosmetic only, no structural damage

€40

Buckled wheel or broken spokes

Rebuild or replacement rim

€120

Punctured tyre

Repaired free once per rental; a second one is charged

€15

Lost or damaged charger

€60

Lost lock or key

€35

Lost or damaged helmet

€45

Battery lost, submerged or opened

The single most expensive part of the bike

€480

Recovery of a bike left outside the rental area

Anywhere beyond Lagos to Tavira, or across the Spanish border

€60 + €0.60/km

These are the figures we actually pay for parts and workshop time, not a penalty tariff. If the repair costs less than the figure below, you are charged what it cost. Fair wear — brake pads, tyre wear, a chain that needs cleaning — is never charged.

4.3

The limit of what you can owe

Your liability for accidental damage is capped at €250 per bike, which is the deposit. Damage beyond that is ours to absorb. That cap does not apply where the damage was deliberate, where the bike was ridden by somebody not named on the rental, or where the rider was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

If a bike is stolen while it was locked to a fixed object with the lock we supplied, and you report the theft to the GNR or PSP and give us the police report number, your liability is limited to a €300 excess. If the bike was unlocked, or locked only to itself, you are liable for its replacement value — between €1,900 and €3,200 depending on the model.

5Delays, diversions and no-shows

5.1

A late flight is not a cancellation

We monitor the flight number on your booking. If the aircraft lands late, the pickup moves with it automatically, at no charge and with nothing for you to do. There is no waiting fee for a delay outside your control, and no time limit on how late a flight can be.

5.2

If the flight never operates

A flight cancelled by the airline, or a diversion that lands you at a different airport, is refunded in full whenever we learn of it — the windows in clauses 1 to 3 do not apply. If you would rather be collected from the airport you were actually diverted to, we will price that run at the published rate for it and put what you already paid towards it.

5.3

What counts as a no-show

For airport pickups the driver waits 60 minutes from the moment the aircraft is on the ground, free of charge. For every other pickup the driver waits 15 minutes from the agreed time. Before the wait runs out we call the number on the booking, message it on WhatsApp, and — at Faro — ask at the information desk.

Only after all of that, with no answer, is the booking marked as a no-show and charged in full. If you cannot find your driver, do not leave the terminal and do not take a taxi: open your trip link and press the call button. It rings the driver's phone, not an office.

6How to cancel, and when the money arrives

6.1

Three ways, all of which work

  • The link in your confirmation. It opens your trip without a password and has a cancel button on it.
  • WhatsApp to +351 936 499 889. Send the booking reference — it looks like GA-8842 — and someone will answer, usually within a few minutes.
  • Reply to the confirmation email. Slower, but it works and it leaves you a paper trail.
6.2

Written confirmation, always

Nothing is cancelled until we send you a cancellation confirmation with the booking reference and the amount being refunded. If you did not get one, the booking is still live. Ask again.

6.3

Refunds

Refunds go back to the card or account that paid, never as a voucher or a credit note unless you ask for one. We start the refund within 1 working day of confirming the cancellation; card refunds usually appear within 5 working days and can take up to 10 depending on your bank. Bookings paid in cash on arrival have nothing to refund. Bookings billed to a hotel room are removed from the room account instead.

7If we cancel

7.1

We cancel rarely, and when we do it is for one of three reasons: a vehicle fault we cannot cover with another vehicle, weather or sea conditions that make the day unsafe, or a road closure. In every one of those cases you get the full amount back, and you get it whether or not you accept the alternative we offer first.

7.2

Where we cancel an airport pickup at less than 12 hours' notice and you have to make your own way, we also cover the cost of the taxi or airport bus you actually took, against the receipt, up to the value of the transfer you booked. That is not a legal obligation. It is what we would want if it happened to us.

8What we do not refund

8.1
  • Unused parts of a rental or an excursion that you chose to cut short, beyond the whole days described in clause 3.
  • Third-party tickets we bought on your instruction where the operator will not refund them to us — boat fares, monument entry, fortress tickets.
  • Bookings cancelled after the pickup time has passed without contact.
  • Anything you paid directly to somebody else, in cash, on the day.
8.2

None of this affects your statutory rights as a consumer under Portuguese and EU law, or your right to complain — see clause 11 of the terms of service.
